Installation Guide

Installing the Missionary Display app on your interactive flat panel — step by step, for any experience level.

Before You Begin

This guide works on any panel from the Approved Panel List. Make sure your panel is:

Time needed: about 10 minutes. No technical experience required.

What you'll need: a file called missionary-display.apk, available to administrators after signing in to the admin panel. See Step 1 for how to get it onto the panel.

Installation Steps

Get the app file

The app file (missionary-display.apk) is available to administrators after signing in to the Missionary Display admin panel. There are two ways to get it onto the panel:

Option A — Download directly on the panel (easiest)

  1. On the panel, open the web browser (look for Browser or Chrome on the home screen or in the full app list).
  2. Go to the admin panel: [ admin URL — provided by your administrator ]
  3. Sign in with your administrator account.
  4. Navigate to Downloads and tap the APK download link.
  5. When the download finishes, a notification will appear or the file will show in Downloads. Continue to Step 2.

Option B — USB flash drive

  1. On a separate computer, sign in to the admin panel and download missionary-display.apk from the Downloads section.
  2. Copy the file to a USB flash drive.
  3. Plug the drive into the panel, open the panel's Files app, and locate the file. Continue to Step 2.
Don't have admin access? Contact your stake administrator — they can sign in on the panel directly (Option A) or provide the file on a USB drive (Option B).

Allow the app to install

When you open the file for the first time, Android will say it's not allowed to install apps from this source. This is normal — you give it permission once:

  1. Tap the button on that message — usually Settings, Allow, or Allow from this source.
  2. Turn ON the switch for the app you're installing from (your Browser or Files app).
  3. Tap the back arrow to return.

Install the app

  1. Open the downloaded file — tap the download notification, or go to Files → Downloads and tap missionary-display.apk.
  2. Tap Install.
  3. If you see a Google Play Protect warning about an "unscanned" or "unknown" app, this is expected for apps installed from a file. Choose Install anyway (or Install without scanning / More details → Install anyway).
  4. When it finishes, tap Open.

First-time setup

  1. If the app requests any permissions, tap Allow.
  2. Enter your stake's pairing code when prompted. This code is provided by your stake administrator.
  3. The missionary display globe should now appear. You're installed!

Set the display to run on its own

These two settings make the panel fully hands-off — it opens the missionary display automatically on power-on and never goes dark.

A  —  Open the app automatically when the panel turns on

  1. Go to the panel's Settings and look for a setting called Startup App, Boot App, Power-On App, or Default Home. It is usually found under the panel's own System or Admin settings (not Android's main Settings).
  2. Set it to Missionary Display.
The name of this setting varies by brand. Check the model notes in the Approved Panels page, or ask your reseller to confirm before purchase.

B  —  Keep the screen awake

  1. Go to Settings → Display → Screen timeout (or Sleep) and set it to Never or the longest option available.
  2. Some panels have a simple Stay On or No Sleep toggle — use that if it's easier to find.
Can't find the auto-start setting? No problem. The display works just the same — someone simply opens the app from the home screen after the panel powers on.

Updating the App Later

When a new version is available, you do not need to uninstall the old one:

  1. Download the new missionary-display.apk using the button in Step 1.
  2. Open the file and tap Install — it will show the word Update.
  3. The app updates in place and keeps all its settings.

Troubleshooting

I can't find the browser or Files app. +
Look for an All Apps button — usually a grid of small squares or dots — to see everything installed on the panel. The Files app may also be called File Manager or My Files depending on the brand.
The download won't start or nothing happens. +
Try a different browser if one is available, or use the USB flash drive method described at the end of Step 1.
The Install button is greyed out or does nothing. +
The Allow from this source permission from Step 2 isn't enabled yet. Go back, turn it on for the app you opened the file with, then try opening the file again.
Google Play Protect blocked the install. +
Open the file again and choose Install anyway (or More details → Install anyway). This warning is normal for apps installed from a file rather than the Play Store. It is safe to proceed.
The app opens but is blank or closes immediately. +
Confirm the panel is connected to the internet, then reopen the app. If it persists, restart the panel and try again.
The screen keeps turning off. +
Follow Step 5B — go to Settings → Display → Screen timeout and set it to Never or the longest available option.
I see the pairing code screen but don't know the code. +
Contact your stake administrator — they manage the pairing codes through the Missionary Display admin panel.
